I have recently stumbled upon a one-piece wonder that may just solve all of our night-out outfit woes. best part, it’s under $100.
dressing for a night out can be tough - outfits are inherently a little less comfortable, rarely do we know exactly where the night will be taking us and it’s hard to find the balance between sexy, classy, simplicity and avoidance of looking like everybody else. in general, I rely on accessories & layering are to take a simple outfit up a notch but with that being the case doesn’t that emphasize the importance of a good base layer more than anything? enter this catsuit.
first and foremost, it is comfortable. almost too much so that if you’re not paying close enough attention you may feel you’ve forgotten to put clothes on at all. I don’t know how norma kamali does it, but their signature fabric somehow flatters without overtly hugging you leaving you feeling confident and comfy at the same time. not always an easy feat.
secondly, it’s versatile. it can stand on its own and it can be styled in a myriad of ways. I woke up the other morning with a yearning desire to play around with exactly how many ways I could style it and thus, this week’s topic was born.
i’ll let the rest speak for itself.
the suit in question

high neck, low back. even sans-styling it holds its own.
the accessories

now, let’s style
keep it simple with a cropped jacket and pumps

need to take a second here to vouch for the cropped wool jacket. this style is more of a recent add to my wardrobe and truly I don’t know what kind of jackets I was grabbing for nights out beforehand?? whether it is paired with a catsuit or just a pair of jeans and white tee, it does not drown an outfit the way that many other jackets can. warmth-wise it’s not going to do a lot for you but we’re gonna acknowledge that and move on. the two that I own are on the verge of being sold out (claire rose x nakd for this one and attire for a black one I live in) and another option here.
welcome in a vintage vibe

this just felt right. catsuit, gold chain belt, tweed blazer and a flea market beaded purse. takes me back to a time before I existed. think I probably would’ve felt compelled to wear this in paris. it’s early 90s chanel and it’s time to boogie.
when you’re going casual

think i’m wearing this one out to a weeknight dinner next week. it strikes a balance between dressed and casual with the double layer up top and the belt holding it all together.
black on black

when going for a monotone look, you can add depth by playing with the cut and texture of your accessories. with the sturrup-esq situation this bodysuit has, I wasn’t sure how it would look with a shoe that didn’t have a closed toe. but I am actually loving the way this open toe strappy sandal is looking. you could easily layer a thin pair of hoisery socks underneath and save your feet from exposure. on top, going for a longer blazer here rather than one with the normal cut. it hits the leg at just the right spot and keeps things looking looong. bag-wise I find myself grabbing for my bottega teen jodie time and time again and think it suits this outfit perfectly. impossible to beat the intrecciato.
channeling saint laurent

if it wasn’t 7am when I tried this on I would have taken my ass right to a bar on the upper east side and ordered a dirty martini. played with shape a bit here by picking a jacket that had more of a drastic shoulder & contrasted it with the synching of the belt. I think this catsuit and belts were made to be friends. rounded it out with white accessories for a bit of colorless color-blocking.
getting dressed for a night out will never be the same
